Dolch Words

(also known as sight words)

Dolch Words or sight words are used in the whole language reading process.  I do not agree with whole language reading but I do believe that sight words have a place when the child is young and needs to learn words without regular rules to begin reading.

1- and, big, can, for, in, is, it, me, one

2 - an, any, could, had, him, of, old, stop, when

3 - after, by, had, again, fly, let, ask, give, live

4 - are, but, do, get, into, on, our, out, saw

5 - am, ate, black, but, four, has, he, no, now

7 - goes, made, many, off, or, read, sing, sit, tell

8 - always, around, been, best, both, buy, does, fast, your

9 - better, grow, hold, hot, if, kind, long, much, only

10 - own, pick, shall, show, six, ten, today, try, warm

11 - about, cut, done, draw, drink, fall, far, full, got
